Smart Cookie was started by two girls who were sick of the American public school system failing them and their peers.
Unfulfilled by the lack of personalization, thoroughness, dedication, and resources, the two girls met in high school and quickly bonded over their dissatisfaction. Tired of the status quo, the girls combined their original ideas on how to improve the public school experience.
Raised in Israel, Maya moved to America in her adolescence and experienced first-hand the challenges that come with adapting to American public schools. By the time she reached high school, she had moved over 10 times, in the process getting a glimpse at over 10 different public schools. Each had its unique downfalls.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Wallis was raised in the American public school system. Throughout the years, she picked up on flaws, and with the additional input of her mother and father, both of whom work in education, she was able to formulate an original approach to compensating for the school system’s shortcomings for herself.
Every day, Wallis and Maya strive to spread the values and vision of Smart Cookie. The bottom line is that every child in the system is a smart cookie, some just need an extra push to reach their full potential.
